Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (12:43pm, November 28, 2020) that he does not think that Leeds United will get relegated from the Premier League.

The former Arsenal and Aston Villa star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, was impressed by Leeds in their goalless draw with Arsenal at Elland Road in the Premier League last weekend.

Merson believes that Marcelo Bielsa’s side will cause other teams in the Premier League problems as the season progresses.

The Englishman added that he has changed his stance on Leeds, having previously been unconvinced by then.

Merson said about Leeds on Sky Sports News (12:43pm, November 28, 2020): “I think they are dangerous. I think they will cause problems as the season goes on. As the season goes on, I think teams will become more tired. I think they stay fit as they are now, I think they steamroll the teams.

“I don’t see them being in a relegation battle, no way. They are definitely one of the better teams in the top half of the table, in my opinion. I have changed my tune on them.

“At the start, I thought, ‘What’s the hype about? They are losing football matches, that’s no good’. But when I watch them probably now, they all know what they are doing.”

Premier League campaign

Leeds have had some disappointing results this season, such as their heavy defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

However, the West Yorkshire club have also held Manchester City and Arsenal to draws in the Premier League this campaign, and the team have been quite impressive.

Then on Saturday evening, Leeds won against Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton at Goodison Park and produced a performance that will probably impress Merson.

This is the first time since 2004 that the Whites are playing in the Premier League, and the main objective has to be to avoid the dreaded drop to the Championship at the end of the season.
