Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan is a reported target for Manchester United, but once again stated that he is a Liverpool fan.

Turan, 27, became a star at Galatasaray and was one of the hottest prospects in world football before his 2011 switch to Atletico Madrid, but his stock has just continued to grow having become a key player under Diego Simeone at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

The Turkish international is known for his dribbling and deliveries into the box, and his superb displays in La Liga have attracted the interest of Manchester United, with manager David Moyes looking to strengthen his side at Old Trafford following a disappointing first season since replacing Sir Alex Ferguson last summer.

Moyes may have landed Juan Mata in January, but is still reportedly on the look out for a winger, with Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia all potentially on their way out of the club this summer – and Turan would fit the bill, with a £20m offer believed to be in the pipeline.

But whilst this may not deter Moyes from making a move, Turan has admitted once again that he is a Liverpool fan – which may not go down too well with the United faithful should the Turk arrive at Old Trafford, and he even singled out one Reds star for praise.

“I’ve always played for teams in red [Galatasaray, Manisaspor, Turkey] and I’ve always admired Steven Gerrard. So yes, I have a soft spot for Liverpool, especially given their history and the atmosphere at Anfield,” said Turan.

With Atletico in the final four of the Champions League, Turan could end up departing on a high should Simeone’s side do the unthinkable and win the trophy, but would he reject a move to United in a bid to play at Anfield?
