Jamie Carragher has told The Football Show, which was broadcast on Sky Sports, that Leeds United should be promoted, regardless of how the Premier League complete their season.
In recent times there have been suggestions that Leeds should not be awarded promotion if the Premier League plays on, but the Championship is halted early.
Glenn Murray of Brighton and Stuart Webber of Norwich City both claimed that Championship teams should not be promoted, if they don’t finish their season.
But Carragher insists that Leeds have earned the right to go up, regardless of how the division is decided.
“The thing I have a problem with, something Glenn Murray said last week, is that if the Premier League is played out and the bottom three go down, what happens in the Championship has nothing to do with what happens in the Premier League,” he said.
“If the Premier League fulfils its fixtures and the Championship doesn’t – whether the EFL put Leeds and West Brom in the Premier League, that’s got nothing to do with the Premier League clubs.”

Leeds fans are likely to be very much in favour of Carragher’s views.
The Whites are currently sat at the top of the Championship table, and have a seven point cushion built up over third placed Fulham.
While that advantage is far from unassailable, if the Championship season does end early, Leeds will surely have done enough to be awarded promotion.
At the moment the Championship are trying to work out a way to return and complete their fixtures, but logistically restarting the league presents plenty of problems.
