Manchester United play-maker Juan Mata has been writing about his side’s latest defeat at the hands of Everton.
When Manchester United signed Juan Mata for a club-record fee back in January, fans would have hoped his arrival would be the catalyst to fire them back into the top-four.
Instead, despite some impressive displays, the Spaniard has watched as his side have stumbled to yet more defeats that have left them with no chance of qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 18 years.
And now Mata has had his say in his usual Monday blog entry.
“I do know that you may win or lose, that is sports and it is part of the game,” Mata wrote. “But I hate this feeling.”
“I feel very disappointed today. This is how you feel when you spend two weeks waiting for a game, getting ready for it, and then things don’t go the way you wanted.”
Mata was writing after United’s 2-0 loss to Everton, that not only mathematically ended the possibility of David Moyes’ side playing Champions League football next season, but was also one of their worst showings of a hugely disappointing campaign.
The former Chelsea man recently said that big names would arrive this summer – or at least that is what he had been told when he signed – but whoever comes in and whoever leaves, Moyes’ biggest challenge is to turn those players into a team who can replicate the success of United past.
If he cannot, the pressure may become unbearable.
