Steve Nicol has strongly criticised Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah on ESPN.
The former Liverpool star, who now works as a pundit for ESPN, is not impressed by Salah’s comments about his future at the Reds.
The Egypt international forward said in January that his future is in the hands of Liverpool, and he spoke highly of Real Madrid and Barcelona just before Christmas, as quoted in The Guardian.
ESPN reported on Friday that ‘there is a growing sense within the Liverpool squad that Salah is eyeing a new challenge elsewhere’.
Earlier this week, the 28-year-old said that he is open to a move to Spain one day in the future, as quoted in The London Evening Standard.
Nicol told ESPN about Salah: “First of all, I hate when players talk about their contract that way. They will tell you that they are open to it and then they will tell you that they are happy. How about you just say you are happy then?
“I don’t like it whatsoever, it makes no sense. It just puts more pressure on you and the club, maybe that’s what he is doing, maybe he is trying to force the club.”
Stay or leave?
Salah – who cost Liverpool £34 million in transfer fees when they signed him from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, according to BBC Sport – is an important player for Liverpool.
The 28-year-old former Chelsea attacker has scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 28 Premier League games and has scored five goals and provided one assist in eight Champions League matches for the Reds so far this season, according to WhoScored.
It is hard to see Liverpool sell such an important player, especially one who is at the top of his game.
