Jamie O’Hara has torn into Liverpool defender Joel Matip over a first-half incident at Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes suffered a major blow by losing 1-0 at the King Power Stadium last night.

The Reds are now six points behind Manchester City, who will extend that cushion to nine points with a victory at Brentford tomorrow night.

Leicester supporters were furious during the first 45 minutes when Matip – who had been booked – backed into a leaping Kelechi Iheanacho, causing the Foxes hitman to fall awkwardly.

Such a behaviour is relatively commonplace in English football, but former Tottenham midfielder O’Hara claims that he ‘hates it’ and has called on the Premier League to do more to ‘stamp it out’ due to the dangerous nature of it.

Lucky

Honestly, Matip was quite fortunate on a number of occasions to stay on the pitch.

Remember, the former Schalke powerhouse was booked as early as the fourth minute, putting him on a tightrope for virtually the entire contest.

However, the defeat isn’t on him.

Liverpool just weren’t clinical or ruthless enough on the night and Mohamed Salah – who missed a first-half penalty – looked particularly sluggish.

But O’Hara is right: Iheanacho could’ve been seriously injured and the player himself looked frustrated that the officials had overlooked it.
