Jurgen Klopp has stated that ’these things happen’ when responding to Everton fans venting their frustration at their team after their defeat at Brentford on Sunday, as he told his Liverpool press conference.
The Liverpool boss stated that he watched Everton’s 1-0 defeat at Griffin Park, but he had ‘no idea’ that the fans expressed their anger at their team and manager after the final whistle.
Rafa Benitez faces up against his former team tonight, with his own side in a bad run of form and supporters annoyed at where the club is headed.
Of course, it’s not a case of Benitez is the problem, but just part of the bigger problem at Goodison Park that has been rumbling on for far too long now.
Things might just become more toxic on Wednesday night when Liverpool make the short trip across Merseyside and possibly claim all three points.
Ahead of the game, Klopp was asked about supporters venting their frustration a lot more at the opposition, including the Everton away support a few days ago.
“It’s nothing new in football,” said Klopp. “I watched the game, Brentford against Everton. But I switched it off after the final whistle.
“I had no idea exactly how it was there. But these things happen when you don’t have the right results.
“Supporters usually tell you with some noises in the stadium because it’s not that easy to transport or to deliver the message differently.”
It’s going to be interesting how all of this pans out tonight and what the reaction will be like from the home crowd if they lose.
This is a Liverpool team at their free-flowing best and vying to win the Premier League title once more.
Given how free-scoring the Reds have been this season and how vulnerable the Toffees have been at the back, then it would be a surprise if the away side don’t find the back of the net in a few hours time.
Either way, Everton will have to put in their best performance of the season if they are to stop the Liverpool steam train that is headed their way.
