Freddie Ljungberg admitted to Sky Sports (22/11/20 at 4:15 pm) that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has ‘shown us doubters’ that he is a ‘very good player’.

When Leeds were promoted to the Premier League, there was a lot of talk around Bamford and whether he could produce the goods in England’s top-flight.

A lot of that was down to the one-time Chelsea youth product missing a number of big chances during his days in the Championship.

But since that jump up, Bamford has been outstanding and ex-Arsenal coach and Highbury legend, Ljungberg shared that he did ‘question’ whether he could do it.

“Bielsa has shown great belief in him,” said Ljungberg. “I worked at Arsenal and we had Eddie [Nketiah] and Leeds wouldn’t play Eddie because they played Bamford all the time.

“I think he has shown how good he is. There were a lot of questions. I had a question about him coming up to the Premier League. Could he do it and will he be good enough?

“Well, he’s scoring for fun and I think he has shown us, doubters, that he is a very good player.”

The fact that there is less pressure on Bamford’s shoulders this season helps his cause.

In the Championship, Leeds needed to win most games, whilst they can afford to be a little bit inconsistent in the Premier League.

That helps Bamford’s cause because he’s not being judged on nearly every chance he is involved in and that results in him playing with more freedom.
