Tim Sherwood has praised Jesse Marsch for the job he had done at Leeds United after having a ‘huge question mark’ over him following Marcelo Bielsa’s sacking.

It wasn’t a case of Marsch initially being brought in that worried Sherwood, but the fact that he replaced a man in Bielsa that was so ‘loved’ in Yorkshire.

It was a tough, yet brutal sacking by those upstairs in the Elland Road boardroom and one that has now paid off.

The Whites were dropping like a stone in the sky, injuries mounting up and conceding goals in ridiculous ways.

But, somehow and someway, Marsch found a way, as the club secured their safety on the final day of the season and Sherwood praised the American for his efforts on Premier League Productions.

“For Leeds, I had a huge question mark over that,” said Sherwood.

“I was thinking ‘Bielsa is loved their, no matter what you do, whoever you bring in, you are going to have an uphill task in winning over the fans and keeping you in the league’.

“But they were dropping like a stone, so, as an owner, you have to make a really hard decision and you have to say, it has paid off.

“That’s a huge decision to make. You can hear all the Leeds fans. Burnley were in the driving seat before the start and you could hear the fans saying ‘Bielsa would have kept us up’.

“The only way he could win Jesse Marsch was to keep them in the league. And they have done it. It must be a relief for him and the fans.”

MARSCH NOW NEEDS BACKING IN THE SUMMER TRANSFER MARKET

This campaign could have ended in disaster but, at the end of the day, they need to look at the positives.

Could it get even worse than this? Surely not! So, back Marsch with some much-needed depth, sort out the training programme and pray for some injury luck.

Then, Leeds might just have a more peaceful and composed start next term because it’s what they need.

But, it won’t come before Marsch is backed in the summer transfer market because the £80k-a-week man is going to need it big time.
