Alan Shearer has shared that he ‘had a feeling’ Newcastle United’s game against Everton was going to be postponed, as he told Amazon Prime Sport.

The former striker was on punditry duty for Amazon during Leicester v Liverpool last night when he was told about the Newcastle and Everton match game being postponed.

On Tuesday evening, Newcastle posted on Twitter that their game against Everton on Thursday can’t be fulfilled because of COVID and injury issues.

Whilst the COVID issues can’t be detailed, it’s obvious who was probably going to miss the Everton match after both Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin went off injured against Manchester United on Monday night.

Nonetheless, this is what Shearer had to say about the game being called off.

“I was looking forward to that,” said Shearer. “Listening to the interview with Eddie Howe, he said that ‘they were struggling to the get the numbers’

“Then I had a feeling that it would be postponed.”

Before the New Year was about to kick in, the Magpies were supposed to re-unite with their former boss, Rafa Benitez, at Goodison Park.

Newcastle have only won once this season and they will next be in action against Southampton when the January transfer window opens.

That’s when the rumour mill at St James’ Park will be in full flow because they are expected to be the main event of this upcoming transfer window.

And depending on the injury to Wilson, which didn’t look too great given that it wasn’t a challenge that caused his injury, then they may have to dip further into their pockets than they first expected.

Either way, the biggest month of Newcastle’s recent history awaits them because they just have to get this right, else they will go down before Easter.
