Troy Deeney told talkSPORT that Tottenham should look at someone ‘in the mould’ of Brendan Rodgers.

With Leicester heading towards Champions League football, with a young squad, healthy transfer record and forward-thinking football, it will only remind the Tottenham fans of what they once had with Mauricio Pochettino.

Given that Spurs might not even play in Europe next season, that might just make life more difficult for Daniel Levy in bringing the right individual to the club.

He clearly got it wrong with Jose Mourinho, even though it was crazy on his part to sack a trophy-laden coach days before a League Cup final.

But knowing what Tottenham fans are like, Deeney shared what the right fit would be for the North London outfit.

“I got stick for it,” said Deeney. “But if I was an owner of a football club then I would look at someone in the mould of Brendan Rodgers.

“Someone that can develop young players, has a track record of doing well with young talent from different leagues and year on year he has developed them with his coaching style.

“But it depends what Spurs fans, and knowing quite a few of them, they all want a style. They want to be excited. If they can win something, of course, they want to win something.

“They don’t want to watch the football they have been watching, especially that Arsenal game, it was a poor game. That’s not what Spurs are about.

“A young manager. Someone that’s going to excite Harry Kane and say ‘this team is going to get the best opportunities for Harry Kane and what he wants’ else he will leave.”

It has been a troublesome season over in North London, and come the summer, both Spurs and Arsenal could be searching for managers.

If Mikel Arteta doesn’t deliver the Europa League then calls for his sacking will only grow.

And whilst Spurs currently occupy a European place, they and Arsenal are in big danger of missing out on Europe altogether, which would be something.
