Speaking on LFCTV, Jason McAteer has been waxing-lyrical about Harvey Elliott during a conversation with Luis Garcia.
The two former Liverpool stars were watching the Reds’ training session in Singapore on Wednesday, and the pair were blown away by Elliott.
The young midfielder was shining during the open training session, and McAteer even went as far as to claim that the 19-year-old reminded him of Xavi and Iniesta, stating that the youngster could grow into that type of player.
What’s been said?
McAteer spoke with Garcia about Elliott.
“You’ve been around Xavi and Iniesta, you saw them, you played with them, you grew up with them. I don’t know whether it’s just because he’s small and he’s that kind of build, but I get the feeling that he could mould into that kind of player, do you see that?” McAteer asked Garcia.
“Of course, I see something that reminds me of those players, his body position, he’s always well-orientated towards the game and his ball control is always forwards and that’s how they play in Barcelona,” Garcia added.

Mouldable
At the age of just 19, Elliott could be moulded into anything Jurgen Klopp wants him to be.
The teenager has immense talent, and we’ve already seen him play in a number of different roles during his career to date.
During his time at Blackburn Rovers, he was a playmaking winger who could score goals, while at Liverpool, he has slotted brilliantly into the midfield three akin to how a Xavi or an Iniesta would operate during their primes.
The sky is the limit for Elliott, and if Klopp wants to turn him into the next Iniesta, we’re sure he’d be able to live up to that billing in years to come.
