‘I get a lot of stick’: Sky pundit claims he gets grief from Tottenham fans for his comments

Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports PL (27/12/20 at 9:30 pm) that he has been getting ‘a lot of stick’ from Tottenham fans for his comments about the club.

Following Tottenham’s draw against Wolves on Sunday, Redknapp once again criticised Jose Mourinho’s approach to matches.

Spurs took an early lead through Tanguy Ndombele over the weekend but a lot was made about how the North London club defended their lead rather than attack it.

Redknapp made it clear that it’s okay to play in a defensive manner against the likes of Manchester City, but it’s not acceptable when they’re not winning games.

“I get a lot of stick from Spurs fans,” said Redknapp. “Saying, ‘Oh, you are just having a go with Jose etc..’.

“I sensed this. After the Arsenal and Manchester City game, this is fine. When you are winning playing that type of football. You are sitting back. No problem fans will be happy.

“But it’s when you are not winning and you are playing in such a negative fashion. You are not trying to push and provoke to make chances. That’s when the problems will arise. Not just from the fans, but also from the players.

“I just think they have a better team and they have better players to set up the way that they do.”

In truth, two highly-regarded coached – Marcelo Bielsa and Mourinho – are both being criticised for their approaches this season, which goes to show that the duo deserve more respect.

One day, it’s the Leeds boss being questioned about his forward-thinking gung-ho style then the next day its the media and pundits turn to be critical of the trophy-laden Mourinho and his approaches.

Tottenham clearly have a better chance of lifting some silverware under Mourinho and you can bet your bottom dollar he will rub it in the face of critics if he does win a trophy at Spurs this season.
