Newcastle target Nayef Aguerd has taken to Twitter to announce his departure from Rennes, with a move to West Ham seemingly imminent.
What’s the story?
Well, the Magpies made a late push to sign the 26-year-old, although he is now set to join West Ham in a deal worth £30m.
The Hammers could even announce Aguerd’s arrival on Monday, according to some outlets.
Now, the Morocco international has posted a farewell message to Rennes – it is quite a lengthy one, to say the least.
You can see what Aguerd had to say for himself in full below.
The Rennes No.6 admits he “gave everything” for the Ligue 1 side, making 80 appearances in total after arriving from Dijon in 2020 – in those outings, he scored seven goals.
Aguerd gained Champions League experience with Rennes, and by the sounds of it, he also forged a strong emotional connection with the supporters, which should excite West Ham fans.
He seems to be a player who gives 100% out on the pitch, so it’s no surprise to see David Moyes focused on bringing him to the London Stadium.
West Ham outdo Newcastle

As aforesaid, Newcastle made a late attempt to hijack West Ham’s deal, although they appear to have failed.
Barring any sudden surprises, Aguerd will join the Irons, and add some much-needed depth to the centre-back department for Moyes.
In our view, securing another season of Europa League football did the trick for West Ham.

Newcastle have the resources to outdo most teams in Europe financially, but after tasting the Champions League with Rennes, we believe Aguerd wanted Europa League football rather than a boosted salary package.
Only time will tell how he performs on the pitch, but on the basis of his farewell message, West Ham are adding a strong character to their dressing room.
