Speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast, Sky Sports journalist Pete Graves has tipped Newcastle to make at least one shock signing this summer.

In the age of information and social media, the transfer market is more of an open secret than it ever has been, but sometimes, you are sideswiped by a bolt from the blue signing.

Aston Villa signed Danny Ings last summer without any sort of speculation, while Fabio Vieira joined Arsenal before any media outlet even got a whiff of a rumour.

Newcastle haven’t been the best at keeping things under wraps in recent months, but, according to Graves, the Magpies have got a lot better at keeping things quiet.

In fact, the journalist says that he expects Newcastle to make some signings from out of the blue this summer.

What’s been said?

Graves discussed Newcastle potentially making some shock signings.

“Could Newcastle sign someone unexpected like Victor Osimhen or Moussa Dembele who haven’t been mentioned in the media?” Graves was asked.

“To answer your question, could Newcastle sign someone unexpected? Yes, 100 per cent. We have something at Sky where we get all our ticks before we break anything. As a result we don’t report stories as quickly as we could,” Graves said.

“James Maddison, we knew a long time before we saw it anywhere, but we had to get confirmation from the selling club, the player’s representatives and the buying club.

“The problem with Newcastle is that it’s difficult to get any information out of the club, Newcastle are water-tight. I fully believe that Newcastle will sign a player or two where you’ll say ‘I didn’t see that one coming’. That is going to happen under these new owners.

“Yes, I do think Newcastle will sign players who haven’t been reported anywhere.”

Exciting

Newcastle United have seemingly been quite slow to act in this summer transfer window, but this update just goes to show that there is a lot happening that we don’t know about.

If Newcastle truly are keeping things quiet and stopping any leaks then anything could be on the horizon for the Tyneside club.

Players who aren’t even on fans’ radars could join at any time, and that makes the Magpies one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League to follow.
