Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Antonio Conte’s Tottenham contract and the option to extend.

Conte’s contract is up at the end of this season, but Spurs do hold the option to extend this deal.

However, despite being the man in the know, Gold says that he’s not entirely sure how long Conte’s potential extension would be, noting that Spurs didn’t specify a timeframe when they first announced this element of the deal.

Conte’s contract question

Gold noticed that we don’t know how long of an extension we could see added to Conte’s contract.

“Do you know what I must admit, we’re not entirely sure how long it’s for. I presume it’s one year, but I haven’t heard how long that option actually is. It could be 18 months or two years. The likelihood is that it’s a year, but I found that interesting when Spurs first announced it they just said an option to extend, they didn’t say how long it is,” Gold said.

Surely only one year

While it’s exciting to think that Conte’s contract could be extended for the long-term, we have to imagine that this will only be a one-year option to extend.

Yes, we have seen two-year options in the past, but those are usually reserved for deals that were initially longer-term.

Conte only signed an 18-month contract to begin with, so having a two-year option on top of that wouldn’t really fit into the trend we have seen within the game.

As Gold says, it’s widely presumed that this option is just for one year, and logic dictates that it will be.

However, Tottenham have been known to have a trick up their sleeve in the past, so this is one to keep an eye on.
