Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has shared that Arsenal had him on the verge of tears when they were 2-0 down at Villarreal last week.
The Gunners’ season seems to hinge on success in the Europa League, and last Thursday it looked as though the London club were about to be unceremoniously dumped from the competition.
Luckily, Arsenal managed to grab a crucial away goal to bring the tie back to 2-1, but their poor start against Villarreal had Wright on the verge of tears.
“When it was 2-0 I was like, you know when you’re watching a game and a tear can just come down your face. I thought that if they carry on like this they’ll beat us three or four nil, and I probably wouldn’t have even noticed that tears were going to come down my face. I felt like that for a bit, I really felt like it was going to go the wrong way,” Wright said.

This just shows how much Arsenal means to Wright.
To be fair, we can imagine that he wasn’t the only Gunners supporter on the verge of a breakdown last Thursday as Unai Emery looked to outclass his former side.
Luckily, a Nicolas Pepe penalty put Arsenal right back into contention, and they go into the second-leg with a real chance of qualifying.
Let’s hope that this is the last talk of tears at Arsenal this season and they can come through the semi-final without too much drama.
