Mattias Svanberg has been speaking to Expressen about his future, with Tottenham and Manchester City interested in signing him.

What’s the story?

Well, the Scandinavian news outlet mention Manchester City are watching the 23-year-old, while it was Calciomercato who claimed Spurs are interested.

Now, however, Svanberg has poured cold water on a move away from Bologna.

The Sweden international told Expressen: “Right now I have no plan. I feel that I feel very good in Bologna and I have one year left on my contract so I am in no hurry. I take it as it comes. I enjoy playing a lot and there are great chances that I will stay, but of course you can possibly be sold. It depends on how I continue to perform. We have not started any negotiation phase.”

Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola won’t like the sound of that.

Svanberg seems very content with life in Serie A, and why wouldn’t he be?

The Bologna No.32 plays 90 minutes most weeks, and is a key member of the side under Siniša Mihajlović.

So far this season, Svanberg has made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals while also providing two assists.

Tottenham and Manchester City still have a chance

As Svanberg states, his contract expires in June 2023, which leaves Bologna in a delicate position.

The Swede admits negotiations are yet to start between him and the Serie A side, which is very interesting news.

In our view, Bologna should open talks with Svanberg immediately – if they fail to agree a deal, they will be forced to sell him this summer, or risk losing him for nothing in 2023.

Contrastingly, their lack of urgency could also be a worrying sign for Tottenham and Manchester City, as it could suggest they’re comfortable about finding a quick agreement.

Nevertheless, the Italian side are certainly cutting things fine.

Keep an eye on this saga, as Tottenham and Manchester City could test Bologna’s resolve with an offer.
