Ian Wright told Premier League Productions on Tuesday evening that he feels ‘sorry’ for Liverpool because of the injury-hit campaign that has affected them this season.
The Highbury legend stated that it would be ‘very harsh’ on Liverpool if they missed out on Champions League football for next season.
As things stand, securing a top-four finish lies in the hands of Liverpool because all they have to do is win their remaining two games of the season, including against Burnley tonight and then Crystal Palace at the weekend.
But given what Liverpool have produced over the years, with the Premier League title win, Champions League triumph, losing the league by one point, Wright did admit that he feels sorry for those on the red side of Merseyside.
“I feel sorry for Liverpool with everything that has happened,” said Wright. “With the injuries and everything that has happened to them.
“With the way they blasted the league last year after missing out by a point the year before. Then they get to a situation where they are decimated with injuries. Their front three stop firing.
“Then they find it at the end to get something. For them to have a demise, not even get into Champions League for everything they have done the last couple of years then I think it will be very harsh on them.”

It does feel as though, from that perspective, that it is written in the stars for Liverpool to play Champions League football again next season.

It just had to be for Liverpool that Sunday will be Roy Hodgson’s final game for Crystal Palace and those Eagle players will want to send their manager out flying, and beating last season’s champions would be a statement of intent.
