Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after Bernd Leno told Sky Sports about the abuse he has received throughout his career.

The 8-cap Germany international revealed that he was the subject of some horrific abuse involving Robert Enke.

Tragically, the former Germany No.1 took his own life having suffered from depression.

Leno recalls, that, after he delivered one bad performance, a supporter told him to ‘do it like Enke’ in what is a quite horrific message to send to another person.

The £19.3 million Unai Emery signing added that he hasn’t been on social media since he received that ghastly message, and we don’t blame him.

Football is heading into a dark void amid the rise of social media.

Regulators must do more to ensure sports stars, and anyone for that matter, don’t receive such vile abuse.

That could come in the form of making people accountable for their actions by having to sign up with an ID before making a Twitter or Instagram account, or another method.

One way or another, it must stop before we have another tragedy on our hands.

Social media platforms must sort this out.

Let’s see how the Arsenal fans on Twitter reacted to Leno’s comments…
