‘I feel ready’ – Arsenal’s Joel Campbell keen on Champions League chance

Arsenal striker Joel Campbell says that he can show his quality in the Champions League.

Joel Campbell may have joined Arsenal back in 2011, but he has been part of the first team only for the last few months.

The Costa Rica international has been on loan at FC Lorient (France), Real Betis (Spain) and Olympiacos (Greece) for the past three years.

The 22-year-old striker has been developing with every passing year, and following his impressive performances at the 2014 World Cup in Braizl in the summer, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger gave him the chance to play for the first team.

It has not been exactly a great start for Campbell at Arsenal so far, as he has yet to make an impact for the North London outfit in the Premier League.

However, with the 2014-15 Champions League campaign starting tonight, the former Saprissa youngster insists that he can play an important role for Arsenal.

‘I started regularly the whole season and I played Champions League football (at Olympicos)’, the 22-year-old told Arsenal’s official website. ‘That made me the player I am. Even though I still have several aspects to improve, I think I am heading in the right direction. Right now I feel great and ready’.

‘If Arsenal give me the chance to play a Champions League game, I have to make the most of the opportunity and show what I am capable of’, he added.

Campbell is indeed ready to play for Arsenal in the Champions League. Last season while on loan at Olympiacos, the youngster scored one of the goals of the competition against Manchester United in the first leg of the last-16 tie at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus – a strike that forced Europe to sit up and take notice.

Arsenal are in Champions League action tonight against Borussia Dortmund. Campbell is unlikely to start the Group D encounter, but if given a chance off the bench, then the Costa Rican will be a force to be reckoned with at the Signal Iduna Park.
