Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left furious after UEFA published the conversation which led to a handball being given against Moussa Sissoko in the Champions League final of 2019.
The biggest occasion in Tottenham’s recent history was marred in just a matter of seconds after Moussa Sissoko gave away a penalty for handball.
Sissoko did have his hand raised in the box, but the ball hit his armpit, rather than his outstretched hand.
Under the new laws, Sissoko surely wouldn’t have been penalised for the incident.
But back in 2019 it was awarded as a spot kick, and UEFA have now released a video which shows that the decision was not even questioned at the time.
The officials can be heard saying ‘penalty, 100% correct’, with the VAR only going back to check on a possible offside.
The tweet has not gone down at all well with Spurs fans, who still are aggravated by the incident to this day.
Tottenham struggled to recover from the early set back in Madrid, and ultimately fell to a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.
The game had dire consequences for Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino, as the Argentine boss seemed unable to reinvigorate the side after that defeat, and ultimately lost his job in November later that year.
