Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Eddie Nketiah and his performance against Manchester City this week.
The striker failed to score against Pep Guardiola’s side on Wednesday, but he put in a very decent performance against the reigning Premier League champions.
He had three brilliant chances against City, but he failed to take any of them.
Inevitably, Nketiah has faced plenty of criticism in the aftermath of this game, and Wright says that he feels quite sorry for the striker because he only had half-chances to feed off of.

Wright has sympathy
The Arsenal legend discussed Nketiah.
“Half chances against a team like this have to be taken. I feel for Eddie because it’s obvious that fans will have seen the first header, the sliding one and then the last header, it was like a hat-trick of chances. These chances if he takes those elevates Eddie somewhere else, and that’s why it’s not easy because when you go against the top teams you have to go in thinking you have to take your half chances,” Wright said.
Confidence-knocker
This could really affect Nketiah’s confidence going forwards.
Coming away from this game, the striker will be well aware that he could’ve won this game for Arsenal, and it could easily play on his mind if he doesn’t find the back of the net in either of his next two games.
With Gabriel Jesus’ return on the horizon, Nketiah could soon be back out of the team, and it will be interesting to see how he bounces back after this setback.
Fingers crossed the striker can get back to his best quickly after a disappointing outing against City.
