Paul Scholes has claimed ‘I fancy Liverpool‘ in the Premier League title race, but he understands that ‘you can’t write off’ Manchester City.

The Manchester United legend added that Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘changing a little bit’ following the arrival of summer capture, Erling Haaland.

The 22-year-old netted a brace on his Premier League debut on Sunday, as Manchester City recorded a 2-0 win at West Ham United, whilst Liverpool recorded a 2-2 draw against newly-promoted, Fulham.

Not many expected Marco Silva’s side to put up such a fight and showcase such a threat to Liverpool’s backline because they deserved the point against last season’s Champions League finalists.

For the Reds, they will now turn their attention to Monday night and wanting to put their first win on the board when Patrick Vieira and his Crystal Palace side visit Anfield.

Nonetheless, when treble-winner Scholes was asked about the Premier League title race, he backed those from Merseyside to go all the way, as he told Premier League Productions.

“They (Manchester City) are possibly favourites,” said Scholes. “But, as I said, I fancy Liverpool slightly.

“However, you can’t write off Manchester City. They are a brilliant football team. They are changing a little bit, in transition, I think, with Haaland coming in.

“It will be interesting. Manchester City can win the Premier League, of course they can, because they are a brilliant football team.”

MANCHESTER CITY CHASING THREE-IN-A-ROW

During the Premier League era, only Manchester United have won three-in-a-row, but their neighbours might just join them at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Guardiola’s side, after their final day title win last season, have won a remarkable four out of the last five titles, as they are totally dominating the domestic scene in English football.

Ironically enough, if Manchester United want to remain the only team with the above record, then they probably need a favour from Liverpool of all the teams.

If anyone is going to stop Manchester City from running riot again, then it’s Klopp’s side, who lost the reliable Sadio Mane this summer, but brought in Darwin Nunez as his replacement.

Just like Haaland, the South American star has settled in pretty quickly and has scored two in two, including a crucial goal from the bench against Fulham over the weekend.
