Michael Owen has stated that he fancies Liverpool to win their remaining games, but thinks the 2021/22 Premier League title is now heading to Man City.
On Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola’s side thrashed Wolves 5-1 to move three points clear at the top and Owen suggested the +7 goal difference could be too much to turnaround for Liverpool.
Man City can extend their lead to six points at the weekend because, whilst they travel to West Ham, their title rivals will compete in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.
In truth, if the current champions win that game at the London Stadium, then the title is all but Man City’s because a crazy turnaround, in terms of goal difference, will be needed.
Nonetheless, this is what Owen told Premier League Productions (11/05/22 at 10:40 pm) regarding the title race after Kevin de Bruyne’s four goals masterclass against Wolves.
“I felt it was a double knockout tonight,” said Owen. “Not just winning the game, but the goal difference is now becoming an issue.
“I fancy Liverpool to win both of their games, I must admit – Listen, Man City could drop points against West Ham. But I can’t see them dropping points to both (West Ham and Villa).
“Jurgen Klopp has to go into that game against Southampton thinking ‘okay, we need to win this game by four or five’, then hope Man City lose one game. It wasn’t a good night for Liverpool.”

Is the Premier League title race over?
When Man City capitulated against Real Madrid in the Champions League, there were suggestions it could affect them in the Premier League title race.
But it has been far from it because, since that defeat, Guardiola has watched his players put ten goals past Wolves and Newcastle United.
Kevin de Bruyne’s four goals last night indicated that this Man City team hasn’t been bothered, one little bit, by that defeat in Madrid.
The current champions will now need to drop points in both their remaining games if Liverpool are to come out on top.
