Jamie Carragher told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (29/05/21 at 11:30 pm) that he has ‘that feeling’ that Liverpool will win the Champions League next season.

The Liverpool legend also aimed a jibe at Manchester City after they were beaten by 1-0 by Chelsea in the Champions League final in Porto on Saturday.

It means that Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa remain the only English teams to win that crown – with big-spending Man City still craving for that ultimate prize.

Carragher asked ex-Man City defender, Micah Richards, whether his side ‘will ever’ win the Champions League before making his Liverpool prediction.

“I am back in, don’t worry about it, I will be back,” said Carragher after suggesting he will return to be a pundit for the Champions League next season.

“I fancy Liverpool next year. I have that feeling.”

On then being told that Micah Richards fancied Manchester City to win the CL this season: “I got it horribly wrong this season,” said Richards.

To which Carragher responded: “Do you think Manchester City will ever win a Champions League? (Richards says ‘of course they will’).

Carragher then added: “Do they know about Only Fools and Horses in America? Well, if you want to Google it, Del Boy always says ‘next year Rodney we’ll be millionaires’.”

It was a tactical capitulation from Pep Guardiola and his decision not to play a natural number six will haunt him for a long time.

Even though the scoreline reads 1-0, Man City were pretty lucky it wasn’t more in the first half, with Timo Werner once again forgetting his shooting boots.

There has been some rivalry and battle between Jurgen Klopp and Guardiola during these past few years, but one area the German triumphs his counterpart is that he has a European Cup to his name on English shores.
