Speaking to The Redmen TV, journalist Neil Jones has claimed that Nat Phillips could be on his way out of Anfield in January.
Phillips was back in the Reds’ starting XI this week against AC Milan, and it’s fair to say that he impressed in Champions League action.
However, despite the fact he put in a good performance against the Serie A giants, Jones is led to believe that there’s a chance Phillips will be on his way in January.
What’s been said about Phillips?
The Goal journalist gave his view on the centre-back’s future.
“Liverpool wanted too much money for him in the summer, otherwise I think he would have been sold. Can they command the same sort of fee? He’s not a less appealing prospect now than he was in the summer,” Jones said.
“From his point of view, I think, maybe on loan until the end of the season. He’s 24, you don’t want to be sitting on the bench, or sometimes not even on the bench, you want to be playing football. I think he does need to go and play some football; I think he’d like to go and play some football. I think Liverpool would be fair to him if an offer came in, and I expect that there will be some offers. I would maybe say more likely loan than permanent. I would think there’s a fair chance he leaves Liverpool in January.”

Only fair
Phillips has been nothing but a consummate professional for Liverpool, but it’s only fair at this point in his career if the Anfield outfit let him go.
This is a talented 24-year-old who could be a starting centre-half for a number of Premier League sides, and he’s being wasted on the bench for Liverpool.
Yes, he’s a good depth option, but with four centre-halves ahead of him, it’s fair to say that he may be better off moving on if he wants to play regular football.
