Jack Pitt Brooke has said that he still expects Heung-Min Son to sign a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur on the Ornstein and Chapman podcast.
Son was said to be in discussions to pen a new deal at Tottenham last year, but no new contract has materialised.
That has led to concerns that Son’s future at Tottenham may not be as secure as it once seemed.
But Pitt-Brooke has moved to allay those fears and insists that he still thinks Son will sign a new long-term contract sooner rather than later.
He said: “I still think that will happen [Son signing a new deal]. Even though it hasn’t happened yet. I did a story in October saying the deal was very close.
“Obviously it has been held up for months and months and months.
“I expect it’ll happen and I can’t see Tottenham selling him.”
Son was understood to have a good relationship with Jose Mourinho and Tottenham’s likely failure to land Champions League football must rankle with a player of his quality.
But Son does seem settled at Tottenham and clearly deeply cares about the club.
Son is now one of Spurs’ longest-serving players, and will play an integral part under their new manager, whoever that may be.
If Son was to pen a new deal at Tottenham it could be the news to lift the mood around the Lilywhites.
Tottenham’s failure to win the League Cup combined with their decision to attempt to join the Super League has increased supporters’ frustrations after what has been a disappointing campaign.
But landing Son on a new deal would at least highlight Tottenham’s ambition for the future and put an end to any lingering doubts that he could be sold to raise funds this summer.
