Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly about to back Antonio Conte in the transfer market.

The January window is officially open for business as of today.

Spurs are five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the race for a Champions League qualification spot.

But the fact that Tottenham have two games in hand over their North London rivals is particularly significant.

This month could be massive because it gives every club the chance for much-needed reinforcements.

And according to ESPN, Lilywhites manager Conte has financial backing.

The report claims that Conte will have ‘significant funds’ available to shape this Tottenham squad in his image.

Chairman Daniel Levy hasn’t always financially backed whatever manager was in charge in N17.

But given Conte’s standing in football, having won a Premier League tite and four Serie A crowns, letting him off the leash transfer-wise is a smart strategy.

Here’s how Tottenham supporters reacted to the report on Twitter:

Massive

If true, this is potentially massive for Tottenham.

Doing January business is famously difficult for a variety of reasons.

But if Levy finances two or three players for Conte then it could make all the difference to their top-four bid come the end of the season.

Tottenham have improved dramatically under the Italian manager.

They’re running more, scoring more and enjoying their football a lot more in comparison to Nuno Espirito Santo.

Even with their existing squad, finishing in the top four is, at the moment, in their hands.

So imagine what kind of boost some new players could be for Tottenham this month.
