Manchester City prospect Gavin Bazunu has stated his intent to play regular first-team football after establishing himself as the number one keeper for the Republic of Ireland.
Speaking to the Independent, the on-loan Portsmouth keeper issued a message that his goal is to play week in and week out. Bazunu has enjoyed a great season for both Pompey and his national team.
The 19-year-old shot-stopper denied Cristiano Ronaldo from the penalty spot last month. Bazunu also impressed in Ireland’s fixture against Serbia. The teenager made a number of saves in a 1-1 draw with the Balkan nation.
Indeed, it has been a stellar season for Bazunu, who is number one for both one of the biggest clubs in the EFL and now, Ireland, who have a brilliant reputation of producing goalkeepers over the years.
And when asked about his goals beyond this campaign, the City youngster made it clear that he is eager to play regular first-team football, even if it means leaving Pep Guardiola’s side.
Bazunu said: “I’ve not made a decision on that yet, but my priority will always be to try and get as many games as I can because at the end of the day. I don’t want to be sitting on the bench. I want to be out playing week in, week out if possible.”
Bazunu can once again a statement in Ireland fixtures

The City and Ireland keeper is set for a big future. After all, how many 19-year-olds can brag that they saved a Ronaldo penalty?
And with Bazunu set for another slate of Ireland fixtures that could again increase his reputation, Guardiola and City will have to make decision in the coming months if the teenager again impresses for the Boys in Green.
