Fabio Capello was critical of Tottenham Hotspur transfer target and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford following England’s defeat to France at the Qatar World Cup.
The former England boss couldn’t understand why Pickford proceeded to play ‘long balls’ after Gareth Southgate’s side went behind during the game.
The Italian felt this was a ‘big mistake’ from the £30 million star (Sky Sports) and he highlighted how he did the same at Euro 2020 when England were beaten by Italy in the final.

There were some who were critical of Pickford against France, including legendary keeper Peter Schmeichel, but that was for the manner in which he conceded the opening goal.
But Capello had other issues with the 28-year-old and why he should have played out from the back more, as he told Sky Sports News.
“The big mistake made was the keeper,” said Capello. “Not the first goal, it was probably a mistake.
“But, after, during the game when he had the ball, he shoot always long ball. It’s possible to play the ball. My idea of football is that when you can play football, then you have to play.
“One it’s impossible, all the opponents and in not a good position, then you have to shoot long balls. He made a waste in the long ball.
“The same mistake he made when he played against Italy in the Euros at Wembley. After England are winning, he started to shoot long balls. Not play. I don’t understand why. Probably because all the players agree.”

PICKFORD UNDER FIRE
In years gone by, at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and at Euro 2020, Pickford has always been questioned going into those tournaments.
But he has proceeded to be one of his side’s better players, hence why the likes of Tottenham are looking at signing the player in the long run, as reported by 90Min.
However, there are different noises coming out about the player now and many will be feeling, the back-up options such as Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope, should now be handed chances.
