Tony Cascarino has expressed his utter disbelief at suggestions that Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson is ‘average’.

The former striker stated that he just ‘doesn’t understand’ how somebody could feel in that way about the Liverpool captain, as he told talkSPORT.

When Henderson first arrived on Merseyside over ten years ago, life was rather difficult for the Sunderland academy product.

The fact that a young midfielder was under the spotlight of the legendary Steven Gerrard didn’t exactly help matters.

There could have even been situations, under Brendan Rodgers, that Henderson could have left Liverpool, but thankfully from his perspective, he didn’t and stayed put.

The rest is history because, not only did he captain Liverpool to European glory, but he was the first skipper to win them the English league title in 30 years.

And Cascarino noted those achievements and how he seemingly needs more respect put on his name.

“Honestly, I don’t get it,” said Cascarino. “How anyone thinks or can think that Jordan Henderson is average when he is Liverpool’s captain.

“He has won the Champions League and he has won the Premier League. He has been at the club what best part of a decade now? And been an improving player for the past four or five years.

“I don’t understand how you think that someone who has achieved so much can just be average. That’s so off the mark.”

One of the underrated qualities in Henderson’s game is the speed in which he moves the ball in the middle of the park and the variety of passing range he has in his locker.

Just one example was his quite brilliant through ball for Mohamed Salah during Liverpool’s thumping win at Manchester United.

The added qualities that he has is how he drives the team through difficult situations and that was proven by their trophy success.
