Some Arsenal fans feel that Rob Holding can feel harshly done by after missing out on the England squad for Euro 2020.

Gareth Southgate named his provisional 33-man squad for the tournament yesterday, with some surprise inclusions involved.

Although Arsenal centre-back, Holding, did not make the cut – both Ben White and Ben Godfrey did.

And Arsenal fans feel are baffled over why Holding seemingly hasn’t been considered by the Three Lions.

Holding has generally performed solidly at Arsenal this term, without being outstanding.

Both White and Godfrey may have higher ceilings than Holding, which is why Southgate wants to take a look at the young pair.

However, it is arguable whether either White or Godfrey are currently superior players to Holding.

Arsenal have kept the third best defensive record in the Premier League this term, and Holding was a major reason why they were able to achieve that.

In the end, Bukayo Saka was the only Arsenal player to make Southgate’s extended squad.

Even Saka’s place in the final 26-man team for the tournament is far from certain at this stage, as he hasn’t yet established himself on the international stage.
