Clinton Morrison has slammed Newcastle for not signing Rangers’ deadline day capture, Aaron Ramsey, as he told Sky Sports (31/01/22 at 9:10 pm).

The former Premier League striker pointed out that Ramsey is a ‘goalscoring midfielder’ and he is what Newcastle needed.

The Magpies, as expected, were busy during the January transfer window and Ramsey’s name did pop up on their transfer wishlist.

But, after the window slammed shut, The Athletic reported that the Magpies weren’t that serious about bringing the 71-cap Wales international to the club even though they looked at him.

That’s something Morrison doesn’t understand, as he explained what a coup the former Juventus man is for Rangers.

“It’s an unbelievable signing for Rangers,” said Morrison. “I don’t understand how no Premier League club haven’t come and taken him.

“Newcastle, you need a goalscoring midfielder. Why have you not gone and signed Ramsey? Why not get him?

“I am surprised they don’t go and get him. But it’s a great move for Rangers.”

The one player Newcastle would have been pretty disappointed about not signing was Jesse Lingard.

His goalscoring touch in the middle of the park is far more lethal than Ramsey’s and he might be a player Newcastle kick themselves for not signing.

But, at the end of the day, the main job for Eddie Howe was to improve the squad, which he has done and make themselves better than their rivals, which, once again, they have done.

This isn’t about trying to compete with your West Ham’s or Chelsea’s further up the table, but finishing one place out of the relegation zone and now they have a real chance to do so.
