Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has expressed his dismay about Raheem Sterling’s lack of recent involvement at Manchester City.
The winger has been one of Pep Guardiola’s most important players in recent years, but it seems as though he’s dropped down the pecking order at the Etihad lately.
Ferdinand can’t seem to get his head around why Sterling has seemingly fallen out of favour.
“My big concern is Sterling. Sterling has been their best player in the last couple of years, I have to say in terms of output he’s been one of if not the most important player over the past couple of years in this team. He’s out of the team, he’s not playing. Why? I don’t understand, is it because it’s a slower pace? Raheem Sterling if you’re picking the England team three months ago he’s the first-name on the teamsheet, even before Kane, but now people are picking their teams and umming and ahing about Sterling,” Ferdinand said.

It is hard to understand why Sterling hasn’t been starting every game, but who are we to question Pep Guardiola?
Yes, it’s bad news for Sterling, but City have arguably never been better than they’ve been this season, and with one foot in their first Champions League final, it’s hard to pick holes in any of Guardiola’s decisions.
It will be interesting to see what type of role Sterling has between now and the end of the season.
