Kevin Campbell told the Highbury Squad that James Maddison is ‘overpriced’ and he doesn’t think Arsenal will make the ‘correct’ signings as the transfer deadline day nears.
Arsenal are searching for that creative mind to sit in the middle of the Emirates, dictate play, drive the team forward, add a forward and quick-thinking mentality to the side.
Leicester City’s playmaker seems to be the guy Arsenal are targeting and there were even suggestions that the 24-year-old is open to moving to North London.
But Campbell thinks the opposition are the ones who are holding the trump card during these final few weeks of the transfer window and he cannot see Arsenal pleasing their supporters.
On whether Arsenal will make the correct signings: “No, I don’t think we are,” said Campbell. “The problem is there are other clubs as well.
“It’s not that we don’t want to do the business. But there are other clubs involved and they are playing games right now.
“When there are only two weeks to go, they are going to have us over a barrel next week. They know Arsenal are light.
“Unless we are prepared to pay over the odds to some of these teams. Maddison is overpriced at £65 million. Unless we pay that money then Leicester are sitting tight.”

One thing is for sure, if Arsenal finish their transfer business in this current manner then supporters won’t be too pleased.
The problem facing those in the Emirates boardroom is that they aren’t one player light but several players light.
From needing another playmaker, perhaps another forward, defensive-minded-midfielder, goalkeeper and right-back.
Only Ben White has been their major signing of the summer and he has proven, albeit in pre-season games, that there is promise with what they have purchased.
