Alan Shearer has told Premier League Productions on Tuesday evening that he doesn’t think Liverpool will finish in the top four.
It’s all in Liverpool’s hands to secure Champions League football for next season, with Jurgen Klopp’s men needing to win their remaining two games of the season, starting with Burnley tonight.
Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Leicester on Tuesday evening pushes them into third in the table and also puts them into a commanding position to secure Champions League football.
And whilst Liverpool need to beat two bottom half of the table teams to end their injury-hit campaign in a positive fashion, Shearer doesn’t think they will get over the line and explained why their final game of the season could be the stumbling block.
“I think it might stay as it is,” said Shearer. “I think Liverpool will miss out, just. I know Burnley have looked like they have chucked the towel in already.
“But then Palace, with Roy’s last game and I know he has announced it today – I think they will miss out and I don’t think they will win their last two games.”

If Liverpool can see past Burnley then it’s their former manager, Roy Hodgson, and his fast-breaking Crystal Palace side that await them on the final day.
What perhaps provides added drama to that fixture is that it will be Hodgson’s final game in charge of the South London club.
Palace have spoiled Liverpool parties before, with Steven Gerrard’s final Anfield game ending in defeat to a Palace side then managed by Sam Allardyce.
More of the same and Liverpool will be preparing for Thursday’s nights potentially alongside Juventus, which would add some serious spice to that competition.
All aboard the European Super League, eh?!
