Alan Shearer felt that Tottenham and Harry Kane shouldn’t have had a goal ruled out during their 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday, as he told PL Productions (23/02/22 at 5:25 pm).
But Chelsea legend, Gianfranco Zola, disagreed with Shearer and thinks there was ‘enough’ of a push from Kane on Thiago Silva for the goal to be ruled out.
The incident happened just before the break when Tottenham would have, if the goal stood, opened the scoring in the London derby.
But, instead, it was Hakim Ziyech curling in an outstanding effort from outside of the box to officially open the scoring in the second half.
Before Silva poured salt over Tottenham’s wounds by heading his side into a 2-0 lead.
Both Shearer and Zola shared their thoughts on that disallowed goal, which was initially called by the on-field referee and then backed up by VAR.
“Thiago Silva has been very cute and very clever,” said Shearer. “He has made the referee’s mind up, I think.
“Yes, Harry has touched him. But is it enough to (rule it out)? I don’t think so. Thiago Silva has used all of his experience, and he has lots of it, to get a foul and I think it’s harsh.”
Zola added: “I think it was a push. And it had to be disallowed. Not a big one. But it was a push.”

Whilst Chelsea were the better team at Stamford Bridge, Antonio Conte will be rightfully annoyed at that call because it was a crucial moment in the game.
There was contact by Kane on Silva, but was it enough to award the foul because, at the end of the day, it seems to be forgotten that it is a contact sport.
Either way, that was another defeat for Spurs against Chelsea and their fourth of the season in all competitions against their neighbours.
It’s also Conte’s first Premier League defeat since returning and third against his former side, who also knocked them out of the League Cup recently.
