Jose Mourinho has admitted to Sky Sports that he can’t see Jack Grealish ever joining Tottenham Hotspur now.

Tottenham pushed hard to sign Grealish from Aston Villa back in 2018, but they never got a deal over the line.

Daniel Levy tried to snap up the playmaker on the cheap, but Villa were then taken over – and he immediately was taken out of Tottenham’s price-range.

Spurs have lived to regret their decision not to stump up the cash for Grealish, as he has turned into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous players now.

The Villa man has gone on to prove his quality both with the claret and blues and England.

There is little doubting that Grealish would have added a great deal to Tottenham’s attack, if they had captured him when they had the chance.

But when asked if Grealish was the one that got away for Spurs, Mourinho admitted that the time had probably past for any talk of the 25-year-old joining Spurs.

“I’m not going in that direction,”he said. “I don’t know what happened in the past. I believe that the future, if the future is going to be leaving Villa one day, because maybe he doesn’t. I don’t think it will be with us.”

Those comments are likely to disappoint Tottenham fans, who may have been hoping that an ambitious capture of Grealish would have been possible.

However, landing Villa’s captain was always likely to be out of their price range right now.

Grealish is one of the most valuable players in England, and with Villa having tied him down to a long-term contract, they are under absolutely no pressure to sell him any time soon.
