Speaking to talkSPORT, former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamman has been dissecting Liverpool’s performance against Atletico Madrid this week.
The Reds got the better of the La Liga champions on Tuesday, they ran out 3-2 winners, but it’s fair to say it was a nervy game.
Indeed, Liverpool threw away a two-goal lead before a late penalty by Mohamed Salah rescued the three points.
There were some fantastic performances from Liverpool, but Hamann focused on one player he believed was below-par, Naby Keita.
What’s been said?
Hamann gave a scathing review of Keita’s performance.
‘I’ve got to say, I think Keita was at fault for both goals,’ Hamann said
‘I know he’s had some injuries, but I don’t think he’s good enough for Liverpool.
‘If you score a goal like he did, you should be full of confidence, you have to do your defensive duties and I get the feeling he just wants to play with the ball and when Liverpool have got possession.”

Got what it takes
Keita hasn’t had the best of times since joining Liverpool in 2019, but there’s no doubting that he has the quality to be a real asset for the Reds.
Just look at his goal on Tuesday, that’s the second time this season he’s scored a volley like that, this is a player with brilliant technical ability, but he’s rarely been able to showcase it for one reason or another.
Is he good enough to be Liverpool’s main man? Probably not, but he’s still a solid squad player who the Reds know they can call upon whenever they need to rotate their side.
