Ian Wright has defended Alexandre Lacazette’s comments saying that the Arsenal players disrespected Mikel Arteta game plan on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions.
After the 3-3 draw at the London Stadium, Lacazette claimed the Arsenal players ‘didn’t respect’ the game plan of their manager, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Coming from three down was some comeback by the Gunners, but they put themselves in that position, in the first place, inside 32 minutes, which is the worrying thing from their perspective.
But Highbury legend Wright thinks Lacazette’s comments were just translated in the wrong way by the Frenchman.
“No, I don’t think he means disrespect,” said Wright. “That’s just his translation and the way it’s been translated.
“He’s more saying that they didn’t execute the game plan for what the boss asked them to do. And you could see that in the first 30/35 minutes.
“Arsenal were nowhere near it and it was a testament to West Ham that they did punish them and take the chances when the chances came.
“In the end, I think the character that they showed was magnificent.”
Whilst Arsenal’s opener goes down as an own goal, it was Lacazette who was involved in two of Arsenal’s three goals from the weekend.
It puts the £47 million (BBC Sport) hitman on 11 Premier League goals for the campaign and someone who is fast becoming one of the first names on Arsenal’s teamsheet.
Lacazette might still get chopped and changed quite a lot, but he is still a key member of this Arsenal team.
