Diogo Jota has admitted that he took ‘advantage’ over the poor positioning of Aaron Ramsdale during Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Arsenal on Wednesday night, as he told Premier League Productions (16/03/22 at 10:25 pm).

The Liverpool forward, who was drafted into the XI in place of Mo Salah for last night’s game, opened the scoring just after half-time.

A lovely-weighted through ball from Thiago opened up Arsenal’s defence, which put his teammate through, but he was at a tight angle on the left channel.

Jota opted to fire a shot at Ramsdale’s near-post, and despite the Arsenal keeper getting a hand to the ball, the ball ended up in the back of the net.

After the game, the Portugal international admitted that Arsenal were ‘better’ than them in the first half, as he also added that he saw Ramsdale was slightly to his left when he took his shot on.

“Massive (on his goal),” said Jota. “Mainly because of what happened in the first half, they were better than us. I have to say.

“At the start of the second half, we played better. Then we scored, which was massive because it gave us the confidence and we needed it.

On whether he saw Ramsdale a bit to his left-hand side too much: “Yes, I don’t think he expected the cross or the shot to the far post.

“But I saw the space there and I took advantage of it.”

In the end, Liverpool’s firepower was just too much for Arsenal and a clear sign that they aren’t ready to fully compete with the Merseyside club.

Mikel Arteta and his players are the best of the rest, that’s for sure, but they are some way off Liverpool and Manchester City.

But, perhaps next season, if they have secured Champions League football, added a few elite players to their ranks and their young stars are 12 months older, then perhaps the north London club will be a different animal.
