Paul Merson has confidently stated that he doesn’t see Leeds United being in a relegation battle this season despite their early struggles, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (30/10/21 at 1:10 pm).
This despite Leeds sitting in the relegation zone and Merson suggesting that this is a ‘nice time’ for Norwich to play the Yorkshire side.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side will make the trip to Carrow Road on Sunday afternoon, where they will be hoping to open an eight-point gap against the bottom-of-the-table side.
If Leeds lose in a few hours time, then there will be serious worry from the supporters because they only have one league win to their name this season and they would have just lost to the worst side in the division.
Despite that possible situation occurring, Leeds fans will love how Merson is backing them to stay out of trouble this term.
“I think it’s irreplaceable key players that are missing,” said Merson. “I think it’s a team, and the way they play, that you need to be in the team every week.
“I don’t think it’s a team that you can come in one week and play that way. It’s a difficult way of playing.
“They have only won one game this season. Norwich will go two points behind (with a possible win today). It’s not like they are fourth in the league and are on a run. I am just going back to the Southampton game. They never had a shot on target. There’s no plan B.
“I don’t see them being in a relegation battle. Far from it. They have miles too many good players, and when they are all fit, I think it’s a team that if you beat Leeds, then it’s a good three points.
“But, at the moment, with their big players not playing. I think for Norwich it’s a nice time to play Leeds.”

Patrick Bamford isn’t back yet, but Kalvin Phillips did return to the starting XI during their League Cup defeat against Arsenal in midweek.
It was pretty clear that Phillips was off-the-pace during the game because he returned early from his injury.
But those 90 minutes was needed for Phillips and it’s pretty clear that the Norwich game is more important than the one on Tuesday.
In truth, Leeds should secure three points because, not only are they facing a team at the bottom, but one that got smashed by seven against Chelsea last time out.
