Tony Cascarino has said on talkSPORT (6:50am, July 2, 2022) that Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have overpaid for Richarlison when they signed him from Frank Lampard’s Everton.
The former Chelsea striker believes that Tottenham should have paid between £30 million and £40 million for Richarlison, suggesting that they have wasted £20 million on the Brazil international forward.
Sky Sports have reported that Tottenham paid Everton an initial £50 million in transfer fees for the 25-year-old.
Tony Cascarino on new Tottenham signing Richarlison
Cascarino said on talkSPORT (6:50am, July 2, 2022): “I don’t envisage him in the starting Xi. So that’s a problem in itself.”
The pundit added: “If you had said to me what you would price him at, I would have said between max £40 million and closer to £30 million.”

Cascarino further said: “I just see a player that goes down too easily, he would upset a lot of Everton fans because he does go to ground and he does it very regularly in the game.
“I don’t know if he’s a good fit for Spurs. I might be wrong, I might be sitting at the end of the season eating humble pie saying that I got it totally wrong. But I don’t see it with Richarlison, and I think that’s a huge fee.”
Have Spurs overpaid?
It is a lot of money that Tottenham Hotspur paid for Richarlison, but that is the going rate these days.
Now, we do not think that the forward is worth £50 million at the moment, but if he does what he is supposed to do at Spurs, then it will be money well spent.
Richarlison is likely to be used as a back-up to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min next season, and he will be a good option to have for Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte.
Tottenham will have UEFA Champions League football next season, and the North London club will also be aiming to finish in the Premier League top four.
Moreover, Richarlison is only 25 and has extensive experience in the Premier League.
The forward has scored 48 goals and created 32 big chances in 173 appearances in the Premier League so far in hi career.
