Speaking to Sky Sports, Gary Neville has been discussing Antonio Conte and his future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Conte’s future at Spurs has been a hot topic for months now. Many wonder if the manager will decide to walk away from Spurs at the end of the season when his contract is up.

However, after a poor run of form under Conte and an improvement in his absence, many have pondered whether Spurs themselves should pull the plug on the Italian and get someone new in.

Neville says that Conte is the best manager Spurs can get right now, and he’s urged both parties to stick together at this moment in time.

Can’t upgrade

Neville gave his view on Conte at Spurs.

“I don’t see how Daniel Levy will be able to get someone better than Conte to deliver what he wants which is Champions League football and at this moment in time I don’t see where Antonio Conte can go that challenges him in the same way the Premier League does that gets him into the top four in the best league in Europe. I think Conte should stay and I think Conte should keep him, I think both ways that should work,” Neville said.

Not all about pedigree

Neville is right, in terms of pedigree, there isn’t a better manager in the world for Spurs available right now. After all, Conte has won more trophies than most managers can even imagine.

However, there are so many managers throughout history we can say that about. Jose Mourinho was in a similar boat at both Tottenham and Manchester United in recent years, while the same applies to almost every Chelsea manager in the past decade.

Pedigree is one thing, but clicking with your squad and having command of the dressing room is another, and that’s where Conte has fallen flat at Spurs.

Despite what Neville says, it may actually be time for a change in the Tottenham dugout.
