Chris Sutton has slammed the ‘nonsense’ he is hearing that Tottenham striker Harry Kane should be dropped for England, as he told BBC 606.
Even though England recorded a 1-0 win over Croatia in their Euro 2020 opener on Sunday, it was a rather quiet game for Tottenham’s hitman.
That has led to some suggesting that Gareth Southgate should rest or drop his main man for the visit of Scotland on Friday.
But former Premier League winner, Sutton, simply doesn’t like what he is hearing about the Englishman.
“But where has this come from? This Harry Kane nonsense?!” asked Sutton
“Harry Kane is a brilliant footballer. A great goalscorer. He creates opportunities. I don’t sort of like this. I don’t think Kane had his finest game.
“But why are people coming out and questioning Harry Kane? I don’t know. I think I am right on this one. Why are we looking at picking holes in him?”
Every nation at this summer’s Euros would love a player of Kane’s quality at their disposal, so there’s no reason why the Spurs man should be dropped.
The simple fact that it has been suggested is pathetic in itself because this isn’t any random player, but perhaps the best striker in the world and one of the best footballers in the world.
That was proven during the recently concluded campaign when he finished as top-scorer and assist-maker for a Spurs side that finished seventh.
It was also proven at the last major tournament – the 2018 World Cup in Russia – when he won the Golden Boot.
