Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has criticised Son Heung-min for not scoring against Newcastle United, as quoted in Football.London.
Spurs played out a 2-2 draw with Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham came from a goal down to lead 2-1 heading into the final stages when Joe Willock, on loan from Arsenal, scored the equaliser.
Mourinho has said that South Korea international forward Son, 28, should have scored in the second half instead of trying to provide an assist.
The Portuguese told Football.London: “We had one ball in the second half where I don’t know why Sonny tried to assist when I don’t know why, he just had to control and score.”
Public criticism
Mourinho is not afraid to call out his players publicly, and the Spurs boss does have a point about Son.
While the Portuguese has been criticised on many occasions for the way he sets up his Tottenham team, he cannot help if his players make the wrong decisions or do not take their chances.
Son is a very good attacker and is one of the best players in the Tottenham team, and, like all footballers, he is bound to make mistakes and make wrong decisions from time to time.
According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old has scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier League for Spurs so far this season.
