Speaking on the ITV Football Show, Jose Enrique has spoken about Diogo Jota’s start to life at Liverpool, and his injury that he sustained back in December.

It’s fair to say that everyone has been impressed with how Jota has settled in at Anfield, and Enrique is no different, praising him for how well he was doing at the start of the season.

However, Enrique did question Klopp’s decision to play him in the Champions League dead rubber against FC Midtjylland, the game that saw him pick up an knee injury that kept him out for a number of months.

“Jota was doing so well, actually he had an injury for a long time. Actually it was in a game that he didn’t need to play, in the Champions League when we had already qualified, so I don’t know why he played,” Enrique said.

To be fair, Enrique isn’t wrong.

Fans said it at the time, and while a lot has been made of Liverpool’s injury problems this season and the bad luck they faced, they brought this one upon themselves.

Let’s not forget, around this time Jurgen Klopp was complaining about not having five substitutes in the Premier League, but he turned down a golden opportunity to rest his players in the Champions League.

We’re not going to say that this was Klopp’s fault. After all, it’s impossible to predict any of these injuries, but in hindsight, perhaps it would have been wise for the Liverpool gaffer to rotate more in the Champions League.
