Gary Neville told ITV’s Euro 2020 coverage (27/06/21 at 4:20 pm) that he ‘doesn’t know why’ Gini Wijnaldum had such a poor goalscoring record for Liverpool.
The TV pundit was told today that the recently-departed Liverpool player scored one in ten for Liverpool, but he is scoring one in three for Holland.
For his home country, Wijnaldum is playing a more attacking role, whereas Liverpool’s fullbacks were the talkers in the final third during his time at Anfield.
But Neville was still baffled by that Wijnaldum claim because he couldn’t see a situation where Jurgen Klopp was holding the player back during his time on Merseyside.
“I don’t know why he would have one in ten with Liverpool and one in three with Holland,” said Neville.
“I can see why he wouldn’t have one in three, but he played in one of those wide of the three midfield players.
“He always had Fabinho or somebody behind him, so there’s no excuse for him to not get forward.
“Liverpool are going to miss him, though. Klopp always played him. He’s a vital player and he’s one of the very good players the Dutch have.”

It needs to be remembered that before Liverpool signed Wijnadlum, he was a goalscoring winger at Newcastle.
So, he has always shown that he has that goalscoring qualities in his leg.
There’s no doubt that he is one of the most intelligent players in world football, with his efficiency in the middle of the park and use of the ball being some of his biggest strengths.
Now, he’s hoping to help the Dutch qualify for the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, after helping them to three wins from three during the group stages, which included him scoring three goals.
