Speaking on The Big Interview with Graham Hunter, John McGinn has been waxing-lyrical about Aston Villa star Jack Grealish and his ability to constantly improve.
The Aston Villa star has been one of the Premier League’s best players this season, so as you can imagine, McGinn had a number of good things to say about him.
The Scot says that Grealish is obsessed with improving, and that he actually studies how to get better.
“Absolutely, I’ve been lucky enough to see him grow as a player. In the Championship he was destroying teams, he was winning free-kicks, but he wasn’t scoring or assisting as much as he likes,” McGinn said.
“He’s a football obsessive, so he goes and studies and starts getting the goals and assists. Maybe it’s the work he does in the gym, but he just keeps getting stronger and quicker.
“This season, I don’t know what it is, I definitely knew he was capable, but his performances this season, and especially the game against Belgium, the outside perception of Jack changed after that game, he made the whole football world sit up and take notice of how good he is.
“I watch a lot of La Liga, and I’m sure you’d agree Graham, he’d probably fit in there because of how he carries the ball and how good he is.”
The midfielder then spoke about how it used to annoy him when England would snub him from the squad.
“It used to wind me up when he didn’t get in the squad, and people would say ‘he’s not quick’ I see him every day. He’s quick, try to get the ball off of him, he can take the ball down the line, he can embarrass you.”
If McGinn is right about Grealish, he could be a very scary player one day.
Well, he already is a scary player, but when you have a player with such talent who is obsessed with improving, the sky is the limit.
If Grealish keeps getting better, we’ll surely be talking about one of the world’s best footballers in the future.
